Olympic golf became a reality again. The International Olympic Committee has approved Golf will be played in the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and in the 2020 Summer Games.

The Olympic Club is a San Francisco, California-based athletic club with three golf courses located at San Francisco’s border with Daly City, California. The club’s main “City Clubhouse” is located in downtown San Francisco. The club’s “Lakeside Clubhouse” is located just north of the city’s border with Daly City. The two clubhouses are separated by about 10 miles. The three courses at the Olympic Club are the Cliffs, Lake and Ocean courses. The Lake and Ocean are 18-hole par-71 courses, and the Cliffs is a nine-hole par-3 course that is on the bluffs of the Pacific Ocean. All three courses are lined with many trees (almost 40,000 on the Lake course) and offer views of the Golden Gate Opener Bridge and Golden Gate Opener Park. The United States Golf Association recognizes the Olympic Club as one of the first 100 golf clubs established in the United States.

Olympic Course has become a reality again. International Olympic Committee approved the Golf will be played in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and 2020 Olympics.

Who will host the 2016 Olympics? That’s the question on everyone’s mind today and people ask what the International Olympic Committee is thinking. The 2016 Summer Olympics, (officially “the Games of the XXXI Olympiad,”) are still just in the planning phase. Not much has been built yet. No homes have been prepared for the athletes, no new stadiums are going up, but still, many cities had lined up around the world to bid for the Olympic glory. Twenty-Six cities to be exact, had shown some interest in trying to host the games, from Bangkok to Delhi from Doha to Dubai, but now it is down to just four contenders. Four cities on four continents who are hoping to have Olympic glory grace their shores. And only one will succeed. Here is a breakdown of the cities and their bids:

Chicago, Illinois, USA

Chicago’s says that it has 15 different sports venues already built within the city and that it would build one new venue plus an Olympic Village in order to host the games. The city has also said it would build nine more temporary structures to help house the Olympic games – places that would be scrapped and replaced by something else once the games are over.
The city has also guaranteed at least $750 Million toward the costs of the games and is hoping to raise $2 Billion in sponsorships for the games. That is a huge burden for the city, especially considering the recession that is gripping much of the Western world, thus again leaving open the question of who will host the 2016 Olympics?

Madrid, Spain

Madrid certainly has the backing of its’ citizenry, but they have problems with infrastructure. Many of the venues that would be needed for the Games are not yet built and they would need to complete everything in record time, making for a serious concern about the viability of their bid.
One thing in their favor though is that unlike Chicago, the plans they have drawn up do show them using the buildings of the Olympic Village for other purposes once the games are concluded. While the prime concern is hosting successful games, having an impact on a city’s landscape and not causing massive amounts of waste is equally important.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Rio Rio has one thing going for it: They have never hosted the Olympic games and there has in fact never been an Olympic games anywhere in South America in the history of the games. This is a powerful emotional bid for them. That fact itself however may not be enough. They lack public transportation to get around the city and frankly, the 2014 World Cup will be held here so it’s not like international competitions never come.

Tokyo, Japan

Just 55 percent of the residents of this bustling metropolis support bringing the Olympics to their town.
In addition to that issue, while the money is there for the bids and no one is concerned about that, the public transportation situation in Tokyo leaves much to be desired.
So who will host the 2016 Olympics? At this point, it’s anyone’s guess.

nDespite Chicago, considered the pioneer of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, the city of Tokyo in Japan, confident that they will provide the sporting spectacle. Their confidence and hopes in a government tender for the 'Compact Games', all locations are determined within six miles radius. Athletes will be housed in the traditional village, the composing of five tall buildings, and put 100,000-seat stadium on the Tokyo water is the culmination of the government tenders.

rnnThe Japanese capital’s bid is being led by exuberant nationalist Shintaro Ishihara who used the Olympic bid as a key election manifesto item while running for his third term in April’s elections. Now that he has successfully been re-elected the Olympic bid is in full flow. The flamboyant politician and president of the 2016 Olympic bid said: “winning the bid will be no easy task, but Tokyo is determined to demonstrate its capability to successfully host the games, and will vigorously promote the bid campaign with the full support of the government and the public.”

rnnHowever, Shiro Asana who lost out in the election to Ishihara is not so convinced that hosting the 2106 games in such a good idea. He said: “My concerns are with the cost and timings. I don’t believe that the IOC will wish to return to Asia so soon after the Beijing games. That’s why it is too risky to spend any significant sums on any bid at this point.” In what may sound like bitter words after losing out to his political rival, Asana at his press conference in a hotel in Tokyo added: “this has more to do with Ishihara’s ego than inspiring Japan’s youth, as he claims.”

rnnDespite Asana’s fears about cost, under the Olympic plans only two new competition venues are specifically slated to be built for the games, and Japan’s central government has offered to pay half the total construction costs.

rnnHowever, Tokyo is still considered an outside bet to host the games. Even though the city boasts the necessary amount of existing venues, many were used in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games and will need extensive and costly renovation; something that the Japanese government will not help with. Plus, there is the Ishihara factor to contend with; even though he may be popular in his homeland many of his comments have angered his neighbours in Asia, and he is unlikely to win any support for the games from them.
