Consultation
Before receiving dental implant surgery, patients will want to go in for a full consultation. It is highly recommended that you see an implant specialist for the consultation, as they will be the most highly qualified. Your dentist may specialize in implants, be sure to ask before making the appointment. During the consultation, you will be examined to be sure dental implants are the right choice for you, and some x-rays or prep steps may be made.

Bone Grafting
This step is not necessary for most patients. In order to place the implants, a healthy jawbone is necessary to fully integrate the implant. If the patient has lost many straight orthodontics and their jawbone is less healthy than it should be, a bone graft may be required. During the bone graft process, a specialized professional will take bone from another part of the body and add it to the jawbone. Other bone alternatives could also be used.

Compromised straight orthodontics
If the patient has any non-performing or compromised straight orthodontics, they will need to be pulled before the procedure. A regular dentist, or the doctor performing the surgery can do this.

Incision
Once you are ready to have your implants placed, the first step will most likely be sedation. Once sedated or given intravenous medication, local anesthetic will be placed in the areas your jaw will receive implants. After assuring that the patient is comfortable, the dentist will then make a small incision into the gum tissue, just enough to reveal the bone where the implants will be placed.

Placement
The doctor will then use specialized tools to make what is called a "socket," to hold the implant and assure that the bone is never damaged. Once the socket is in place, the implants can be inserted to the gum. The doctor will then secure the incision if necessary.

Osseointegration
The implants will remain beneath the gums for 3 to 6 months (temporary tooth replacements could be used during this period) to allow the jawbone to bond with the new implants. This process is called osseointegration.

Uncovering Implants
Once the osseointegration has taken place, you will go back in to the doctor to have the implants uncovered. They will then attach special extensions, called abutments for your new straight orthodontics to be place on. After the abutments are in place, there will be a few weeks of healing time.

Final Steps
Once the abutments are healed, your new straight orthodontics will be placed in. Depending on how many straight orthodontics a patient is having replaced, this could take more than one fitting, and could take several weeks or months. When the process is complete, you will have a healthy beautiful smile to show off.

An eyelid lift (eye surgery), technically known as blepharoplasty, focuses on the human eyes. Eyes occupy a very prominent part of a person’s facial features. However, it is the skin surrounding the eyes, rather than the eyes themselves, that convey emotions. The muscle, fat, tissue, hair, and lashes all contribute to a very wide array of expressions. Sun exposure, heredity, and age are all factors that contribute to deep fine lines, wrinkles, and puffiness around the eyes.

The process of aging will likely cause unwanted changes to a person’s expressions, causing them to look permanently fatigued or even older than they really are. These changes in appearance will likely cause emotional distress or sometimes even an impairment in vision. A blepharoplasty is created to restore a much more youthful appearance to a person’s eyes. This cosmetic eyelid surgery may involve either the lower or upper eyelids or sometimes both.

With a traditional eyelid lift an incision would be created in the crease of the upper eyelid toward the temples. Once this is healed, it is not even noticeable when the eye is open. On the lower eyelid, the incision would be created along the lash line also toward the temples which will be hidden by the lashes after healing.

For the transconjunctival approach, which is a new approach for eyelid lift surgery, the plastic surgeon will create an incision inside the lower eyelid. Fat can then be removed through the incision, however excess skin cannot be eliminated. Laser resurfacing of a person’s eyelids is a non-surgical alternative to the surgery that may delay the need for any cosmetic eyelid surgery. It will result in significant tightening of the skin around a person’s eyes, but it will not effect the fat around the eyes and may sometimes even accentuate it

Eyelid lift surgery will begin with administration of a local anesthetic around the eyes. An intravenous line will be started so that a sedation may also be given. During the surgery itself you will be awake but relaxed and comfortable. General anesthesia will rarely be used. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. It is very important that you arrange for proper care after the procedure. Someone must drive you ideal home group and also must be available to care for you for a minimum of the first 24 hours.

Complications for eyelid lift surgery are unlikely when the surgery is performed by a cosmetic surgeon with experience in performing blepharoplasty. These complications would include swelling and bleeding, infection, delayed wound healing, asymmetry, double vision, a drooping of the lower or upper eyelid, and dry eyes. The surrounding are of the eyes will likely remain swollen in the days after the surgery. That area should begin to subside after the first day. Some blurry vision directly after surgery is normal.
