When you decide you want to start making money online it is very exciting. There are many possibilities and so much to learn. But that can be the downside as well. You may find TOO many things to focus on and then you end up doing nothing. Or almost as bad you don’t do anything very well.
Nearly everyone who begins in internet marketing has been in this position. It usually goes like this: You are new to internet marketing and you learn of something that really opens your eyes. However, that leads to learning about something related but slightly different. And then that second thing leads you to something else. Soon you are so far off from what you were originally looking at you don’t know quite where you are anymore.
The good news about making money online and internet marketing is that you can try just about everything, if you just pace yourself. The Internet and ways to make money online are not going anywhere. In fact, as time goes on there will be more and more ways to make money online.
The key is to focus. However, when the light bulb first comes on about how great the Internet is for making money spend a bit of time getting overwhelmed. This is the pre-action phase and this is a good time to gather as much information as you can. After all, it may take some research before you find the one thing that really gets you excited. You (generally) don’t marry the first person you date, and you shouldn’t necessarily go with the first idea for internet marketing or making money online you run across either.
Here are some tips on keeping your focus when you want to make money online.
1. Pick a method and stick with it. Like a doctor or lawyer this would be like finding your specialty. Then stick with it long enough to have actually taken ACTION. Reading and learning are great but you won’t make a dime until you take some action.
Don’t worry – even though you found a “specialty” does not mean you can never try new things. Usually it is more beneficial to you to focus on a specialty and master it. Then you may find that those skills will help you in developing new skills. Often one method of making money online is a good companion to another. Once you have learned the first skill the second method will be easier to learn. However, if you tried to learn both at once you may become overwhelmed and frustrated and give up all together. The exception to sticking with one thing is if you find you hate it or do not have any motivation to keep at it. Then find something else and make that your specialty. The good news with internet marketing and making money online – you don’t have to go through years of expensive schooling only to learn that in the real world you hate the profession. You can cut your losses early and move on with making money online.
2. If while first using and learning the one method you’ve chosen (aka your specialty) you find something else that excites you, take notes and bookmark like crazy. Remember how I said the Internet isn’t going anywhere? It really isn’t. The information you need will still be there when you need it.
3. After you have gotten more comfortable with your specialty, now start researching or easing into the other methods of making money online you took notes on (or start looking for new ones if you hadn’t found any before now). You can really build and expand your money making ability by combining different methods and trying different things. And just like some doctors specialize in a couple different areas – so can you. However, when you are new to the world of making money online it is easy to get caught up in chasing one new thing after another. And that will not get you to your goals. Even worse – if you are always investigating the next new thing then you are not actually focusing and taking action which usually means you are not making money.
If you follow these steps and repeat as necessary you will find that you are getting to your goals of making money online more quickly than if you tried to do too much at once.
