10 Great Reasons to Quit Smoking
1. You smell bad! You don’t even know the half of it. Being a smoker, you are desensitized to smells and tastes. Even when you think you have ‘covered up’ the smoke smell, your clothes, car, breath, and home (even if you don’t smoke inside) smell like an ashtray. It actually takes a lot of effort and in most cases professional cleaning to get rid of the smell for good.
2. Your wallet. You already know that smoking isn’t cheap, and it seems like every day the keep adding another tax on cigarettes. A regular smoker spends between $150 – $500 a month or $1800 – $6000 a year. That’s a luxurious vacation or even a car payment. Do you really need another 10 great reasons to quit smoking? I think a trip to the tropics is enough for me.
3. You’re annoying! Yes, you heard that right, you are annoying. Your consent cigarette breaks mean people are constantly waiting on you, and when you return, they have to smell that cloud of smoke you bring with you. People don’t like being around you when you are smoking and they certainly don’t like waiting for you to step out every hour or so.
4. You’re starting to look ugly. No offense, but you are. Your teeth are yellow, your skin is oxygen depleted, and you look 5 years older than you are. That paired with your awful smell and nasty cough, I’ll give e you a 4 out of 10. Great reasons to quit smoking aren’t they?
5. It’s unsanitary. Most people don’t know that this is one of the 10 great reasons to quit smoking. Every time you smoke you fingers touch the filter that your lips were on. Most smokers don’t wash their hands after each cigarette which means they’re passing germs along to every person they shake hands with, every baby’s cheeks they pinch. And if that doesn’t bother you, your fingers, that you previously touched the bathroom stall with, just flicked your filter. So now you get those germs on your lips. Gross huh? Would you like another 10 great reasons to quit smoking or shall I stop now?
6. You may lose your job. It is illegal for someone to fire you because you smoke, but it isn’t illegal for them to fire you for your excessive smoke breaks, not following sanitation procedures, or having an unprofessional appearance (i.e.; hacking up a lung during a meeting or warding off customers with your smell.) Some companies group insurance providers refuse to pay for anyone’s insurance who smokes. Since you will be on that group insurance plan, a company can ask you if you smoke during an interview and chose not to hire you because you do.
7. Second hand smoke. If you don’t care enough about your own health to kick the habit, maybe your loved ones life at stake will make you think twice. Even casual smoking around you friends, family, even pets can send toxic chemicals their way. You shouldn’t need 10 great reasons to quit smoking when you’re loved ones health is on the line.
8. You’re waiting too much time. Each cigarette you smoke takes 5 minutes. Multiply that by a pack, maybe even two and you’re spending up to 3 hours a day just smoking. Think of how much you could get done with that free time.
9. You may want babies some day. Smoking affects the reproductive organs in both males and females making it much harder to become pregnant and significantly increasing your risk of miscarriage. Not to mention you cannot smoke while pregnant or breastfeeding, so you might as well kick the habit now rather than when you’re already irritable from being pregnant.

Cancer and emphysema are amounts the most fatal, but smoking deteriorates your health in a number of other ways. Osteoporosis, stroke and heart disease are just a few of the many serious illnesses that have been linked directly to smoking.
